Laudanum was an addiction for old Thomas, though it seems to have had only positive effects on his literary productivity, at least according to wikipedia. A mix of opium and alcohol sounds quite delicious, if you ask Nurse. His most famous work was Confessions of an English opium eater, which you can download for free at project gutenburg! Hooray!
